QATAR Red Crescent Society's (QRCS) mission in Yemen has provided medical equipment and consumables to health facilities in four Yemeni governorates.
Under a multi-sector humanitarian programme, the $95,238 worth of medical supplies are estimated to serve more than 83,000 patients visiting five health centres in Taiz, Sana'a, Ibb and Al-Hudaydah.
These include ultrasound devices, blood pressure monitors, medical microscope, blood test machines, test tubes, delivery room equipment, waiting room seats and other medical aid.
The beneficiaries were happy with this much-needed support."I visit the centre frequently because it offers treatment free of charge. I thank God for this help from our brothers in Qatar. Thank you very much for standing by us," said Houriya Ahmed al Shahari, mother of eight from Hajjah who receives treatment for kidney disease and hypertension at a medical centre for the internally displaced people (IDP) in Sana'a.
Dr Ahmed Hashid, director, Al-Shaheed Mohamed Al-Dorra Health Center in Jabal Habashy District, Taiz, stated:"I cannot thank QRCS enough for their generous contribution of necessary medical equipment, which will help alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people amid a wave of displacement from cities to the countryside."
This project, Dr Hashid revealed, was the first health care aid received in the region since the beginning of the war. He wished it would open the door for further supplies.
In 22 May Health Center, Azya Hamoud Monaem, mother of six, said:"I usually take my children to the centre for treatment. I moved to a house nearby. The war made it difficult to go out. When one of my kids was ill, I would not know what to do. The health centre in my old district was closed due to the war. We are grateful for the support extended by Qatar in such hard times."
Moktar Abdul-Aziz Rajih, father of four in Taiz, wished the centre would continue to serve the poor and the displaced."When I feel tired because of diabetes and hypertension, I see worry in the eyes of my children. The city is mostly under siege and movement is impossible. I thank God for the help from our brothers in Qatar."
