Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano has called for immediate lifting of the blockade imposed on Qatar by the Saudi Arabia-led bloc as it has caused difficulties for thousands of families.
In a statement on Thursday, Alfano said he would request Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt to lift the blockade urgently.
The statement came after Alfano met with his Kuwaiti counterpart Sabah al Khalid al Hamad al Sabah on the sidelines of the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
"Italy supports the Kuwaiti mediation efforts to resolve the Gulf crisis," Alfano told his Kuwaiti counterpart.
"We expect all parties to participate in a transparent and open dialogue within the framework of respect for the common goal of reaching a negotiated settlement to this dispute soon," Alfano added.
The Italian FM praised the excellent level of bilateral relations between Italy and Kuwait in all fields, especially in the economic sector.
