Speaking at a press conference at the UN, French President Emmanuel Macron said:"I think it is untimely, in the proper sense of a word to put forward the threat of a response by war."
Earlier during his own UN address, Macron warned that Pyongyang's actions were a threat that"concerns us all immediately, existentially, collectively" and that the communist state"has shown no sign of a wish to negotiate."
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed the US president's address that took aim at Iran, calling it an"ignorant hate speech."
"Trump's ignorant hate speech belongs in medieval times -- not the 21st century UN -- unworthy of my reply," Zarif said on Twitter.
"Fake empathy for Iranians fools no one," he added.
In Germany, Chancellor Chancellor Angela Merkel said she would do everything in her power to ensure a diplomatic solution.
"Anything else would lead to disaster," she told a campaign event ahead of Sunday's election.
