Omar Mohamed and Pia Hampel won the titles in their respective men and women classes during the 1,000m race, held as a part of the Swim For A Cause by Sharq Village & Spa.
Omar Mohamed emerged the champion in the senior race, beating Tobias Hampel, while Mohd Syafei bin Ahmad Ebrahim Yousuf al Romaihi finished third.
In the women's class, Hampel held off Georgia Twigg to bag the crown. Sarah Neeson rounded out the podium.
On the occasion, a 500m race was also organised and Michael Berndt got the better of Paul Crooks to take home the men's crown. In the third place was Francis Hasek.
Maisie Gilford was the winner in the women's section as she beat Jenisha Barretto. Melaine Wolicki claimed the third spot.
The four races were a part of the year-round activities by Sharq Village & Spa, a Ritz Carlton entity. Aimed at engaging and inspiring the communities towards the healthy physical activities and lifestyle, the Ritz-Carlton event is also focused on child well-being, hunger and poverty relief and environmental responsibility.
Last week, the resort held the popular initiative Swim for a Cause, an open water swimming challenge that contributes proceeds from the event towards providing safe and clean drinking water to those in the need. The programme, well known throughout the country, aims to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourages individuals to actively initiate change in societies around the globe.
Over 65 participants, members and supporters of the luxury hotel and spa contested in two categories of the swim challenge, which was also supported by Qatar Charity Foundation, Six Senses Spa, H20 Swim Club, MAD Triathlon and TriClub Doha.
