The Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani met the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the organisation's headquarters in New York City on Tuesday. They discussed a number of regional and international issues, particularly the Middle East, including the developments of the Gulf crisis, Palestine, Syria, Yemen and Libya. The two sides also reviewed cooperation between Qatar and the UN and ways to develop them, in addition to the topics on the agenda of the 72nd Session of the General Assembly. HH the Emir also met with President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajcak. At the beginning of the meeting, HH the Emir congratulated Miroslav on his assumption of the presidency, and wished him success in his duties. Discussions during the meeting dealt with regional and international developments, in addition to a number of issues of common interest, especially on the agenda of the 72nd session. Miroslav thanked HH the Emir for the support provided by Qatar for humanitarian and relief projects around the world, and its support for education and development projects in poor countries. The meetings were attended by several members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Emir and senior officials of the UN. (QNA)
