STUDENTS, educators, social media influencers, local journalists and other members of the community were in full patriotic fervour as they expressed their support to the wise leadership of Qatar at a public event hosted by Qatar Foundation (QF) at the Student Center of Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha on Tuesday.
The solidarity gathering was organised to witness the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani's address at the opening session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York amidst the ongoing Gulf crisis. Qatar Foundation's Vice-Chairperson and CEO HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al Thani also graced the event.
The mood was festive and celebratory inside the packed auditorium as the audience religiously listened to the message of HH the Emir as he addressed various issues, including the ongoing unjust blockade. The crowd cheered on the acknowledgement of HH the Emir of the patience of citizens and residents of Qatar in the light of the situation.
The Qatari leader was accorded a standing ovation at the end of his address.
Addressing the crowd, Head of Press Office at Qatar Foundation Khalifa al Kubaisi underscored the event's significance. He said,"Today is a historical day for Qatar as HH the Emir delivers a pivotal speech before the international community. We, citizens and expatriates, gather here to show solidarity to the country and its wise leadership through Qatar Foundation community which is an integral part of the Qatari society. We are here to say that we are with our wise leader."
He mentioned the festive mood within the Education City, highlighted by traditional music echoing throughout the campus.
Khalid Jassim, a journalist at Al Kass Channel, also spoke to the young audience and inspired them with his insights on the blockade by the Saudi-led bloc."This crisis is different from other crises that we had experienced in the past. We've had some difficulties and problems with some GCC states before, but we never expected this to happen," he said.
Abdulla, a social media activist, underscored the significant role of social media influencers in refuting the attacks on Qatar through fabricated news stories via different media platforms.
"Our role and responsibility as social media activists have become even more important as many people rely on us for information despite the strong presence of the traditional media. It is important for us, as journalists, to reveal the truth and facts," he said.
Young children took the centre stage at the event and fondly shared their views on the wise leader of Qatar. One student remarked that the speech of HH the Emir is an inspiration for the people of Qatar while another expressed his admiration of the firm stance of Qatar to resolve the dispute peacefully but without compromising the country's sovereignty.
