NEW YORK The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and the US President Donald Trump discussed regional and international issues, especially the ongoing Gulf crisis and the efforts to resolve it through dialogue and diplomatic means, in New York on Tuesday. The US President welcomed the Emir, highlighting their long-standing friendship. The US President noted that efforts are ongoing to resolve the problem in the Middle East, saying he believes it will be solved very quickly. Trump said the US-Qatari relationship was very strong."This relationship must be stable," Trump said, adding that he looks forward to more bilateral meetings in the future. For his part, the Emir described the Qatari-US ties as very strong and historic. The Emir said Qatar was the first country to sign the counterterrorism agreement with the US and there were several bilateral agreements in trade, military and security fields. On the Gulf crisis, the Emir noted that there is a problem with the neighboring countries and the efforts of the US President will help a lot in finding a solution. The Emir stressed Qatar's readiness and openness for dialogue. The two sides reviewed bilateral ties and means of boosting them in all the fields. The two sides also discussed efforts to combat terrorism and extremism. (QNA)
