WITHIN its efforts to create resilient commercial alternatives amid the unjust blockade imposed on Qatar by its neighbours, Qatar Ports Management Company Mwani signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Oman Global Logistics Group (ASYAD) in Doha on Tuesday.
The signing took place at the Kempinski hotel in the presence of Qatar's Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Ahmed al Sulaiti and his Omani counterpart Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salem al Futaisi on the sidelines of the opening of the Hamad Port.
The MoU aiming at developing logistics services, shipping and passenger ferry services between Qatar and Oman was signed by the CEO of Mwani Qatar Captain Abdulla al Khanji and CEO of ASYAD Abdulrahman Salim al Hatmi.
Khanji welcomed the signing of the MoU with ASYAD and said such cooperation would"contribute to achieving Mwani Qatar's objectives and plans that aim to boost its position locally and establish its presence regionally and globally as a leading company in the field of providing integrated seaport and logistic services".
Speaking to the media, Hatmi said that this agreement will support Qatar's plan to enhance and develop commercial movement."I congratulate our brothers in Qatar, hoping that this MoU is a great beginning for them in the field of logistics in trade," Hatmi added.
The MoU aims to develop passenger ferry services between Qatar and Oman and could be expanded to include commercial services as well in due course. It also aims to develop a joint strategy to anchor cargo business to Hamad Port and Omani ports as well as develop joint logistics services between Hamad Port and Omani seaports.
On this occasion, the Minister emphasised the unique relations between the State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman, thanks to the wise directives of the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and His Majesty Sultan Qaboos of Oman in service of mutual interests of the two brotherly nations. He said the two leaders are keen to develop relations in all fields. There is also an active and close follow-up from the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani.
