As the community comes together to help those who are building our city stay cool this summer, volunteer recruitment for this charitable initiative is now open.
One of Qatar's most impactful outreach events, the annual Summer Cool Campaign, returns on September 9. Bringing together community groups, volunteers, media outlets, and corporate sponsors, the initiative aims to support 2,000 of Qatar's blue-collar workers by distributing care packages filled with water, juice, snacks, sunblock, and toiletries at work-sites throughout the country.
Spearheaded by Qatar Volunteers, ILoveQatar.net and QatarLiving.com, the Cool Campaign was first organised in 2008 by Qatar Volunteers, and will soon be marking 10 years of making a difference in the lives of the workers who are building the city.
"The purpose of the annual Cool Campaign is to make workers aware about heatwaves and how they impact their health," said Qatar Volunteers Founder Sayed Ali."We also want to bring smiles to the faces of these workers and help them feel that the communities living in Qatar care for them. It's important to us that we bridge the gap between white-collar and blue-collar workers, and make them feel as one community."
Over the years, the Summer Cool Campaign has reached more than half a million workers and labourers in the country with the invaluable help of its volunteers and sponsors.
"Social investment and supporting the community is the backbone of what we do," said I Love Qatar Network Founder and CEO Khalifa Saleh al Haroon."We celebrate our diversity as a nation, and strive to give back to everyone who has had a hand in its growth and development. Supporting those blue-collar workers who are, literally, building our infrastructure from the ground up is a priceless opportunity to express our gratitude for their contribution to Qatar, and to show the world that they have our full acknowledgement and respect. It's a privilege to be a part of this initiative."
Those wishing to volunteer for the 2017 Qatar Summer Cool Campaign can do so by visiting the Qatar Volunteers Facebook page (@QatarVolunteers) and following the instructions to submit your expression of interest. There is a need for around 50 volunteers to help collect goods, pack them and aid with the distribution.
"QatarLiving.com is honoured to be invited to join in the Summer Cool Campaign and promote such a worthwhile initiative," said QatarLiving.com Digital Strategist & Content Writer Shaun Myburg."With the help of public and corporate volunteers, we hope to shine a light on those who are helping Qatar evolve and, in turn, help them stay cool this summer."
Supporting the 2017 Summer Cool Campaign as sponsors are Drbak Limousine and Altair IT Solutions, who will provide 2,000 assorted tetra packs of juice, cool boxes, crushed ice, and T-shirts for the volunteers. Wa'hab will provide 2,000 water bottles, Vichy will provide 2,000 mini-tubes of sunblock and moisturiser, The Shangri-La Hotel will provide space for volunteers to pack the boxes, and a meal for all the volunteers, Virgin Megastore will print Cool Campaign-branded T-Shirts for all volunteers and King Koil Qatar will provide financial donation for supplies.
If you would like to be a sponsor for the 2017 Summer Cool Campaign, contact the organisers through Facebook @QatarVolunteers.
Collection of goods and items will take place on September 7; packing of all boxes and coolers will take place on September 8, and distribution will be done on September 9.
