IN support of Qatar's efforts to weather the effects of the ongoing blockade, the Mall of Qatar (MoQ) on Monday opened an exhibition titled 'Made in Qatar Food Market' to promote food items produced by Qataris.
The exhibition features 10 Qataris who mainly make their items at home and sell them through social media platforms.
Some of the businesses featured include Ninety-Four, Lazaza, ND Choco Color, Shay Al Shoomos and Goody Maker, among others. The exhibitors display food items ranging from traditional and authentic foods to recipes and new kinds of foods that are created by the Qataris themselves.
The food included pasta, pickles and cakes, among others.
The market will continue until September 10.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Mall of Qatar General Manager Rony Mourani said the exhibition is part of the mall's summer festival activities and part of efforts to show support to Qatar and its leadership.
"We launched our summer festival in early July and started with activities related to families and some national activities to express our support to the country and the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani," he said,
Mourani reiterated that, through the exhibition, they also wanted to show support to the young Qataris who are looking for investment to enlarge their small businesses.
"They have bright ideas that they want to develop and share with a larger crowd," he said.
Talking about the criteria they used to select the exhibitors, Mourani said,"We selected the young Qataris who are not well known in a large scale business sphere and need support in terms of awareness. They run their businesses through the social media and we need to support them."
The official said that, at the mall, they always look for creativity and innovations and address new ideas in an innovative way.
"This market is part of the idea that we promised the people that we will provide. We would have daily interactions with people so we could know what they need and what they think. This is an example of what our objectives are and what we are aiming to achieve," he said.
Talking about the future plans of the exhibition, Mourani said,"This is a debut of what we will be doing in the future for a larger and much wider exhibition."
