Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) will buy 400 transformers at QR350 million from an Omani company over the next two years.
The corporation has struck two deals with Voltamp Oman in this regard, Kahramaa President Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari said on Monday, noting that the company has signed deals worth nearly QR5 billion over the past five years.
With the ongoing infrastructure projects in Qatar, he said the corporation would continue to seek more deals.
Kuwari said the Omani firm was picked after a tendering process that made sure it met the technical specifications of the contracts.
"Kahramaa supports investment in the field of industries related to electricity and water grids and aims to nationalise several ones in Qatar so as to support the work of the corporation," he said.
Signing of the two contracts comes at a time when commercial and economic ties between the two countries are growing, Kuwari said, adding that the transformers bought from Voltamp would be used in supplying electricity to infrastructure and industrial projects among other purposes.
Noting that Voltamp was a leader in its industries, he said negotiations are going on with several Omani firms for cooperation in the power and water sectors.
Kuwari said the economic ties with Oman would continue to develop.
Voltamp Oman Chairman Qais bin Mohamed al Yousef said his company has a lot to offer for the Qatari market, noting that signing the contracts is one of the goals of Voltamp, which looks to expand its presence in the Qatari market and benefit from the available investment opportunities.
He said Voltamp Oman would not hesitate to expand whenever the opportunities arise.
The Voltamp Oman chairman said awarding the tender to his company and signing the two contracts represent a milestone for the company.
Al Yousef said Voltamp Oman was established in 1987 as a family business and has grown to become a public shareholding company listed on Muscat Securities Market. Since then, he said, the board and executive management have worked to ensure that the company's products to cope with modern technology so as to efficiently serve its customers and place high quality at the forefront of its priorities and goals.
