QATAR University College of Law (QU-LAWC) recently announced offering a new course titled 'Special Topics' in Fall 2017 to address legal dimensions of Qatar blockade from the perspective of the international law.
The course aims at engaging law students in informative discussions and research to enhance their understanding of the current Gulf crisis. It is expected to attract junior and senior law students who have acquired adequate research skills throughout their academic journey at LAWC.
The initiative comes as part of QU-LAWC plan to organise a number of research activities, academic events and specialised seminars that attract experts and researchers to discuss topics related to the recent blockade imposed by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt on Qatar. The QU-LAWC will also publish a special issue of the International Review of Law to address diverse topics related to the Gulf crisis.
Students registered in the course will be encouraged to write multidisciplinary academic research papers in one of the blockade-related issues. Best researches will be compiled in one booklet to be sent to relevant departments in the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the National Human Rights Committee.
Commenting on the course, Dean of QU-LAWC Dr Mohammed al Khulaifi said:"Discussions initiated on the basis of research and scientific evidences are the secret behind any successful educational process. LAWC is keen to enhance and adopt such an approach to graduate qualified young students who are capable of serving the Qatari community in the best way possible."
Professor of 'Special Topics' and International Law at LAWC Dr Yaser Khalaileh said:"The 'Special Topics' course articulates the existing situation in which Qatar is blocked by Saudi-bloc as well as its consequences. This new course intends to objectively address the Gulf crisis from different law perspectives such as international law, maritime navigation law, GCC Cooperation Council Law, diplomacy and international dispute resolution, international human rights law, the general theory of international organisations and World Trade Organization, among many others."
