AMBASSADOR of India to Qatar HE P Kumaran welcomed the recent announcement by Qatari authorities to offer residence permits to Indian expatriates with special skills and the visa-on-arrival facility for Indian nationals.
Ambassador Kumaran was speaking at a reception to mark India's 71st Independence Day in Doha on Friday. The reception was organised by the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), an apex body of more than 100 socio-cultural organisations of the Indian community.
The Indian ambassador spoke about the hard work, sincerity and professional and technical skills of the Indian expatriates which have been acknowledged by Qatar."The leadership of Qatar has acknowledged the contributions of Indian community for the developments of their country," the ambassador said.
Ambassador Kumaran congratulated the Qatari friends for the immense progress achieved by them in the last two decades in fields of education, research, infrastructure, finance, business, sports, travel and tourism, among other areas.
India and Qatar have enhanced their partnership in all areas of bilateral engagements, he said, adding that the new facilities and reforms are testimony of the steadily growing bilateral relations between the two countries.
The ambassador also hailed the labour law reforms introduced by Qatar to protect the rights of the working class.
The event at Al Wakra Sports Club was attended by officials of the community police with Ministry of Interior Ghanim al Khayarin and Mansoor al Ansari from Qatar Football Associations along with other prominent Indian community leaders.
