In a bid to streamline work permit issuance and ease the procedures for hiring of workers by business owners and investors amid the ongoing Gulf crisis, Qatar will soon be introducing a new electronic visa system.
The new system will enable companies to file requests to bring in expat workers through a single platform.
Giving a presentation on the system at the Qatar Chamber on Sunday, Recruitment Manager at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Fawaz al Rayes said the human resources department of any firm can fill out an electronic form with information about the company and the kind of labour specialties that it needs among other relevant information.
"The new system, which will replace the permanent recruitment committee, will fulfil all the needs of business owners in terms of careers, labour requirements and their nationalities etc.," Rayes said.
He said the new system is expected to be launched in the coming weeks after taking into consideration all the concerns of business owners."The objective of the new system is to spur investment in the country by facilitating access to visa services and recruitment of expatriates without any obstacles," Rayes noted.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Ali al Meer, Director of Labor Inspection Department at the ministry, said the new system was welcomed by business owners as it will meet the needs of the local market for labour. It also makes easier the procedures of recruiting employees, he said, adding that the beta version will be launched this month to address any potential issues before the final version is released.
Qatar Chamber Acting Director General Saleh Hamad al Sharqi stressed that the new e-visa system would give a boost to the private sector by enabling them to access the labour market in a simple way.
