The huge number of violations committed against Qatari companies and property owners in the blockading countries, especially in the UAE, confirms the absence of a safe legislative environment for investors, National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Chairman Dr Ali bin Smaikh al Marri has said.
As many as 320 violations of property rights have been committed by the UAE since the beginning of the siege, Marri said during a symposium organised by the Oxford Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Forum at British Parliament in London.
He said no country has the right to threaten the interests of individuals, close down companies, confiscate properties, prevent money transfers and lay off workers on the grounds of political differences.
The number of violations against right to property in Saudi Arabia has reached 596, mostly related to the livestock of Qatari citizens.
The violations against the right to property in the UAE, which positions itself as the first investment destination in the region, have shaken the confidence in its investment environment, he noted while adding that the sanctions imposed on Qatar by Saudi Arabia and its allies were a clear violation of human rights and international conventions and treaties.
