In yet another cyberattack on Qatar after the hacking of Qatar News Agency that triggered the GCC crisis, Doha-based Lusail newspaper's website was hacked in the early hours of Sunday by a group of people from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to a press release issued by the Arabic business newspaper, the hackers managed to take control of the newspaper's website and posted abusive comments.
They changed a poll launched on the newspaper's website and replaced it with phrases like"Emirati hackers were here" and"Emiratis and Saudis are your lords" as well as several derogatory and false accusations.
Journalists at the newspaper told Qatar Tribune that the website was temporarily closed down.
The newspaper's vice chief-editor Mohammed al Hajji said the hacking will not stop them from pursuing their work in publishing real facts about the economy of the countries imposing the blockade and the losses suffered by them.
"It seems that they didn't like the stories we had published describing some painful facts about their economy. So, they decided to prevent us from doing that by hacking our website," Hajji added.
In an attempt to avoid more damage, the newspaper's website was shutdown temporarily.
Hajji said the newspaper will sue those behind the hacking.
