Exploring the possibilities of attracting trade and investment opportunities for Nepal besides other issues such as labour and so on will be my key area of focus during my tenure as an ambassador, HE Ramesh Prasad Koirala who has recently assumed his tenure as the Nepalese Ambassador to Qatar, has said.
In an interview with Qatar Tribune recently, the ambassador said:"Nepal by virtue of being part of the huge Indian subcontinent market can offer vast investment opportunities for the Qatari businessmen to invest and reap good returns."
According to him, there are three key components investment, demand and abundant labour force for any successful business venture. Hence, it makes a lot of sense for any businessmen to invest in Nepal to take advantage of the other two factors such as ever growing markets of India and China.
Talking about the areas of investment, he said:"Hydroelectric power generation is one large area that government of Nepal is making headway in thereby offering lucrative investment opportunities to foreign investors. Qatar can play a role here as an investment partner."
Apart from energy sector, another key area that holds tremendous potential is the tourism sector of Nepal."Nepal is sandwiched between two of the largest and the fastest growing economies - India and China with a progressive middle-class population who are eager to travel," the ambassador said.
"There is a huge demand for developing the necessary infrastructure to tap this readily available market by anticipating the needs of the modern tourists. We insist on developing high-end luxury hotel for niche Middle East tourist by paying attention to the requirements of halal certified food and prayer facilities."
Health tourism is another sector where the government of Nepal is trying to develop that can attract tourists from this region. With prevalent high cases of diabetes and other lifestyle ailments, Nepal can be a nice destination for people of this region to enjoy the beauty of its mountain and range of adventure sports that it has to offer such as hiking, mountaineering and so on.
The ambassador expressed his admiration for Sheikh Mohammed Abdulla al Thani who became the first Qatari mountaineer to scale Mt Everest in the past and hoped that Qatari youth will take inspiration from his achievement and visit Nepal to explore its true natural beauty and culture.
