Importers of food items have welcomed the state decision to reduce goods handling fees at ports in a meeting with Qatar Chamber (QC) officials on Saturday.
The decision has been announced by Qatar Chamber on the directive of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani.
The Saturday's meeting, convened by QC's Committee on Agriculture and Environment, and attended by members of the Logistical Support Committee, which has been formed in the wake of the Qatar-Gulf crisis, discussed ways to ensure uninterrupted flow of food items into the country.
Mechanisms to facilitate the flow of food items to the local market without interruption and the means to maintain the pace of supply were part of the agenda.
Mohammed bin Ahmed al Obaidly, QC board member and Chairman of the Agriculture and Environment Committee, stressed that the committee was committed to addressing the difficulties faced by importers of food items. He said the committee has been holding regular meetings to discuss problems and find out solutions.
