THE National Committee for Human Rights (NHRC) of Qatar in collaboration with the International Federation for the Protection of Journalists and the International Institute of Journalism will hold a two-day international conference at Ritz Carlton Doha on July 24 and 25.
Titled 'Addressing the Risks to Freedom of Opinion, Expression and Access to Information', the conference is expected to receive over 200 participants to discuss challenges to freedom of expression and exchange of information that has accompanied the rapid spread of modern technologies.
The opening session of the conference will include speeches by the Chairman of NHRC and a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights representative, among others.
Besides, international and regional non-governmental organisations in the field of human rights, media institutions, researchers as well as policy and research experts will also take part in the conference.
The theme of the conference will be to protect journalists in conflict areas, end impunity for crimes against journalists and raise awareness of ethical challenges, particularly those related to racism, cultural and religious conflicts, and promotion of ethics.
