Inspectors of the General Authority of Customs (GAC) seized 19 tonnes of chewing tobacco and 21,616 bottles of wine at the Hamad Port during Ramadan. The large quantity of narcotics and banned substances seized during the period also included 17 kilograms of marijuana at the Hamad International Airport (HIA). GAC Chairman HE Ahmed bin Abdullah al Jammal honoured seven customs officers for their efforts in foiling smuggling of the banned substances. The chewing tobacco seizures at the Hamad Port were being smuggled in wooden doors and loudspeakers shipments while the bottles of wine were hidden inside olive oil boxes. (TNN)
