PATIENTS have welcomed the latest billing system at the pharmacy of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) health centres. The concept called 'My Care Billing' involves patients paying for their medicines at the pharmacy instead of first going to the cashier counter and then to the pharmacy to collect the medicines.
Talking to Qatar Tribune recently, Mesaimeer Health Center Manager Dr Leena Abdulla said that the health centre introduced this project this January and the patients do not have to report at the cashier first before getting the medication.
"Earlier, the patients would leave the doctor's room, go to the pharmacy for pricing the medications then go to the cashier for the payment, and go back again to the pharmacy to get the medicines. Now, the patients pay for the drugs at the pharmacy," she said.
Dr Abdulla reiterated that the system of going to the cashier first was scrapped off to decrease the movement of patients from one area to the other."Now, everything is done at the pharmacy. This helps in patients' flow and also more efficient quality of work with improved patient safety and decrease in errors," she said.
A patient at Mesaimeer HC said that the latest system is more convenient compared to the earlier one."Before, one would get confused along the way, on where to go from the doctor's chamber. A lot of time used to be wasted from the time you leave the doctor's chamber until you get the medicine. And it was more difficult and stressful for a patient who visited the centre without any relative or friend to assist him," he said.
Another patient who visited Rawdat Al Khail Health Center recently said that the system has brought a better order in the process of collecting the medicines."Earlier, the procedure was tiring. Now, after you leave the doctor's room, you go to the pharmacy, get a number then wait for your turn. The process is smooth. People do not crowd around while collecting the drugs. We commend this move by the PHCC," she said.
