Hanoi Five houses were knocked down by a wave of sediment pushed by river waters early Tuesday on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, sending panicked residents scrambling, state media reported. At approximately 1 am (1800 GMT Monday), residents were woken by sudden violent shaking in their~riverside houses in Nha Be district in the Mekong Delta,~reported the VN Express news site.~"The iron roof and the walls were torn apart before they tumbled down," Tong Thi Mong Trinh, 27, told VN Express, adding that she saved her motorbike, but lost 9 million Vietnamese dong (395 dollars) cash and her gold. A total of 27 residents were forced to flee as their homes collapsed into the~Rach Giong River, although no lives were lost. (dpa)
