The Qatar Summer Festival (QSF), which will kick off on the first day of Eid al Fitr, is expected to attract visitors from beyond the region.
This year's QSF centerpiece, the Entertainment City at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), will feature 87 games in 11 categories.
Featuring the Middle East largest inflatable obstacle course, the games are organised in association with QSports.
Besides DECC events, other activities include stand-up comedy show, Doha Comedy Festival, music concerts, competitions, and special hospitality packages and shopping promotions. The festival will continue until September 5.
Speaking to reporters during a media tour of the Entertainment City, QTA Director of Festivals and Tourism Events Mashal Shahbik said Qatar is not only focusing on regional countries but also beyond.
"Our strategy is to focus on different destinations and different markets. With Qatar Airways operating in many countries, we are expecting people from different countries to visit Qatar until Eid al Adha," she said.
Shahbik added that they are expecting more visitors from Kuwait as various activities for them have been planned.
"We have witnessed an increased number of visitors from Kuwaiti since the beginning of this year. We are hoping that this will continue since the Kuwaitis have started a hashtag on social media that promotes spending Eid in Qatar. We are trying to offer them a warm welcome by having multiple activities. We are trying to understand what would interest them and we are trying to introduce some of those things in Doha," she said.
Talking about this year's theme at the Entertainment City, Shahbik said th activities would be more interactive with the games supporting the National Sports Strategy.
"The whole concept of the Entertainment City is to be active. All the games involve some kind of physical exhaustion. We changed the concept this year because we wanted everybody to be active and it's something for everyone, not only for kids but adults as well," he said.
The Entertainment City's key features include the world's largest inflatable obstacle course, Timba Cars, Bricklyn Lego, skill games, virtual reality and arcade games, a paintball shooting range and live entertainment shows. It also has a food court and pop-up shops. The opening timing for the Entertainment City is 2pm and runs until 11pm daily. The entry ticket is QR15. Individual game prices are QR5, QR10, QR15, QR20, QR25, QR35, QR45 and QR50.
