Bazm e Urdu Qatar (Est 1959) recently organised a farewell party at Grand Palace Hotel Doha in the honour of their Chairman Amjad Ali Sarwar, who is leaving Qatar after 27 years. He completed his tenure of service at Ashghal and has decided to retire and live the rest of his life with his family in Mumbai, India.
The programme was presided over by Chief Patron of Bazm e Urdu M S Bukhari (Satco Group Managing Director).
The other patrons of Bazm e Urdu Hassan Abdul Kareem Chougule (Businessman and DPS-MIS School Chairman), Bilal Ahmed Khan, Khalid Dad Khan and Mohd Habibun Nabi (Dy Chief Patron) and Shaukat Ali Naz were the special guests.
The event was conducted by Bazm e Urdu General Secretary Ahmed Ashfaq.
After a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Qari Abu Hazma, a memento was presented to the Guest of Honour Sarwar by the chief guest, in the presence of the Bazm e Urdu executive committee members and other guests.
Shahid Sultan Azmi, Ashfaq Deshmukh, Zawar Hussain Zahir (poet), Raquim Azmi, Athar Azmi, Tahir Jamil, Mansoor Azmi, Ijaz Haider and Shaukat Ali Naz (Bazm e Urdu Qatar), Furqan Ahmed Peracha (Majlis e Faroug e Urdu Adab), Mohsin Habib (Halqa e Adab Islami), Khalid Dad Khan, Ibrahim Khan ,Nadeem Mahir and Aziz Nabeel (Anjuman Mohibban e Urdu Hind), Obaid Tahir (Radio Qatar Urdu Service) and Shakil Ahmed Kakavi (World Bihar Organisation) presented him with tributes through speeches and poetry.
M S Bukhari, Hassan Abdul Kareem Chougule, Bilal Ahmed Khan, Mohd Habibun Nabi also praised Sarwar, who is well-known for his humility, dedication, kindness and love.
Sarwar is well-known for helping and teaching new poets on how to improve their poetry. There are many renowned poets in Qatar and across the world who have studied under Sarwar. He is the author of many Urdu poetry books including Zia e Harmain, a collection of his Hamds and Naats.
Sarwar thanked the Bazm e Urdu team, friends and guests and acknowledged his contribution to the promotion of Urdu in Qatar.
"I had the privilege to be the Chairman of Bazm e Urdu Qatar and I worked together with the team for 27 years and enjoyed being part of a very old Urdu literary organisation in Qatar," he said.
Ijaz Haider proposed the vote of thanks.
A large number of Urdu lovers attended the function to pay tribute and bid farewell to Sarwar.
Other prominent guest at the event were Najmul Hasna Khan (Jamia Milia Alumni), Dr Atta Ur Rehman (renowned scholar), Dr Mohammad Noor (A Canadian poet), Mohammad Khursheed and Irshad Faridi (Bazm e Alig), Shahbuddin (Bazm e Sadaf), Shafiq Akhtar, Mahfuz Hasan, Riaz Mansoori, Aqeel Ahmed and Altaf Gohar.
