DOHA Qatar's strategic reserve of essential food items like rice, sugar, milk, pulses and cooking oil are sufficient for the next 10 months, Sheikh Jassim bin Jaber al Thani, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), has said.
The reserve in the parallel market is enough for the next four months, Sheikh Jassim said. Export of Qatari products is going on as usual, he told Al Jazeera.
"There is no problem whatsoever in food supply," he said.
"Qatar has enough of food supply and there is no shortage," Sheikh Jassim had said earlier."We have a surplus of food supply. There is a huge stock of all kinds of products. We have an emergency plan in place to tackle any shortage of food items," he said, adding that the importers have enough stock of food items. He urged the citizens and residents not to panic. (tnn)
