QATAR Charity (QC) has begun finalising a campaign to combat cholera epidemic in Yemen, which is expected to benefit 40,000 people.
The campaign will focus on providing drinking water in the affected areas in order to prevent people from using polluted water that results in the infection and supporting health centres to offer medicines and treatment.
Mohammed al Kaabi, director of QC's relief department, said:"QC has been following up the Yemeni crisis since its beginning and has launched emergency relief campaigns and projects in various regions of the country. However, the magnitude of the current crisis is huge and our brothers are in danger. International organisations have launched repeated appeals to accelerate the fight against the spreading of cholera epidemic in Yemen, which prompted us to launch this campaign."
Kaabi called on the donors to respond quickly to support the campaign, pointing out that every passing day the suffering increases and many lives may be lost.
According to the United Nations estimates, 7.6 million people are living in areas vulnerable to cholera in Yemen. Sanitation is inadequate at shelter of displaced people in Yemen and such places are at risk of transmission of the disease.
Benefactors in Qatar can donate through various 'stocks'. These include 'water supply' which is worth QR100, 'food basket' worth QR300 and 'medical services' worth QR500. Donations can also be done by sending SMS messages 'YEAV' to '92632' (to donate QR50), '92642' (to donate QR100) and '92428' (to donate QR500). Donations will be also accepted at QC's collection points and self-service devices at malls.
