The General Authority of Customs (GAC) has foiled attempts to smuggle in contrabands into the country with the seizure of a total of 23 kg of marijuana and 4,704 narcotic tablets at various entry points.
While 5-10 kgs of marijuana along with and 4,000 narcotic tablets were seized at Hamad International Airport from passengers, 704 narcotic tablets 'Lyrica' were found hidden in the spare tyre of a car at Abu Samra port.
GAC Chairman Ahmed bin Abdullah al Jamal has honoured four employees of the Customs Department of HIA and the Land Customs Department for their efforts.
Jamal has called for adopting new strategies to train Customs inspectors. Modern inspection devices simulators are being provided to train inspectors to use them in detecting narcotic substances of rare qualities.
