The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani on Friday exchanged Ramadan greetings with leaders of Arab and Islamic countries after the Ramadan Crescent Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) announced Saturday, May 27, as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
In a statement, the committee confirmed the viewing of the Ramadan Crescent on Friday night, May 26, and announced Saturday as the first day of Ramadan.
The statement said the fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadan is considered one of the five pillars of Islam.
The committee extended its greetings on advent of the Holy Month to the Emir, the Father Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, the Deputy Emir HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al Thani, and to the government, the Qatari people and all Muslims.
The Emir exchanged greetings with the Emir of Kuwait HH Sheikh Sabah al Ahmed al Jaber al Sabah, HM King Abdullah II bin al Hussein of Jordan, HM King Mohammed VI of Morocco, President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh, Mauritania President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, and Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah.
The Deputy Emir and the Prime Minister also exchanged greetings with leaders of the Arab and Islamic countries, on the advent of the Holy Month.

Emir to receive well-wishers
The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani will receive greetings from well-wishers including sheikhs, ministers, Advisory Council Speaker, undersecretaries, Advisory Council members and citizens on the holy month of Ramadan at Al Wajba Palace, on the first and second evenings of Ramadan immediately after taraweeh prayers, the Emiri Diwan announced on Friday.
