THE Central Municipal Council (CMC) on Monday discussed a proposal to open two new petrol stations to serve people in Al Luqta and Al Thumama neighbourhoods.
In a response to a demand from CMC Chairman Mohammed al Shafi, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said that a proposal to establish a mobile petrol station is underway.
The MME stated that coordination was ongoing with the authorities concerned to carry out with procedures to start the station which will be in service soon.
Speaking at the Council's regular session, CMC member Fatima al Kuwari, councilor representing Al Thumama area, said the MME's step was in response to her demand to establish a petrol station to serve in Al Thumama, adding that the ministry has assured that an area has been designated for the purpose and will soon issue an authorisation to Woqod to start building the station.
In a different discussion, CMC Councilor representing Al Dakhira and Al Khor recommended construction of a highway that connects Al Khor City with Al Shamal Road. He stressed the need to ease traffic between Al Khor and Doha and to lessen congestion on the Coastal Road as many residents in Al Khor drive to Doha daily for work.
CMC members also discussed the price of land space for extension of citizens' homes.
In his recommendation, CMC member Saied Rashdi urged the government to give land space adjacent to or behind citizens' house at prices lower than the market price if not for free to enable them extend their homes.
On the other hand, the CMC legal committee submitted recommendations to Kahramaa and several other government bodies to consider chalets and country houses as ordinary homes.
The recommendation demanded exemption of these chalets from paying electricity installation fees as it is the case for citizens' homes inside the cities.
