THE Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani has sent a written message to the Iraqi Prime Minister Dr Haider al Abadi, inviting him to visit Qatar.
The message was handed over by Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani during a meeting with the Iraqi PM on Monday.
Dr Abadi expressed his thanks and appreciation for the kind invitation of HH the Emir and promised to visit the country soon.
During the meeting, the foreign minister reiterated Qatar's continued support for Iraq in all its efforts to maintain territorial integrity and eliminate terrorist groups and armed militias from the country.
The minister also expressed Qatar's gratitude towards the Iraqi PM for the efforts by his government in securing the safe release of the Qatari nationals held in captivity in the country and the support extended to them until they reached Baghdad airport on their way back to Qatar.
"My visit to Baghdad reflects close and well established brotherly relations between the State of Qatar and Iraq," said the foreign minister.
Dr Abadi appreciated Qatar's decision to reopen its embassy in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad soon.
The two sides reviewed bilateral ties and stressed they will remove all the obstacles that may disturb the relations between them. They will look forward to a bright future, forgetting the past and opening a new page in the historical relations between them.
At the beginning of the meeting, the foreign minister conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir to the Iraqi PM. For his part, Dr Abadi entrusted the minister with his greetings to HH the Emir, wishing him good health and happiness and the Qatari people progress, development and prosperity.
