The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has resolved 3,467 cases of sponsorship transfer in 2016.
In its annual report, the NHRC said about 2,132 people got a permanent sponsorship transfer through it, while 1,335 got a temporary sponsorship transfer.
The report said cases of delayed wages and unjustified sacking by their employers were considered and resolved by the NHRC.
According to the report, the NHRC aprised the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) regarding the rules of changing jobs to a different employer.
THE National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) received a total of 3,231 complaints in 2016 and resolved 3,467 cases of sponsorship transfer, NHRC's 2016 report says.
According to the NHRC's annual report, of the 3,467 cases, 2,132 workers got permanent sponsorship transfer while 1,335 got temporary sponsorship transfer last year.
The resolved sponsorship transfer cases included those of delayed wage payments to workers, unjustified sacking and denial of jobs by employers.
According to the report, prior to resolving sponsorship issues of workers, the NHRC sought detailed information from the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) regarding the rules of changing jobs.
The HR department clarified that as per Article 22 of Law 21 of 2015 regulating the exit, entry and residence of expatriates, an employee's sponsorship can be temporarily transferred in two conditions; first to allow him to meet his expenses during his stay in Qatar and second to legalise his stay in the country until the settlement of the dispute.
The 92-page report also recommended enhancing safety measures at construction sites and raising awareness among workers to avert accidents.
