UNDER the patronage of the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani inaugurated the Kahramaa Awareness Park in Doha on Monday.
The opening coincided with the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) held under the theme 'one promise, one journey'.
The PM along with other ministers and dignitaries also toured the park where he was briefed about its facilities, programmes and services as a centre of science and knowledge and entertainment.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud also attended the event.
Speaking at an event organised by the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to celebrate the occasion, the Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al Sada said that the Tarsheed campaign succeeded in reducing per capita consumption of electricity and water in Qatar by 18 percent and 20 percent, respectively, until 2016.
Kahramaa President Eng Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari also delivered a speech and announced the commencement of the second phase (2017- 2022) of Tarsheed in order to achieve its objectives."During this period, Tarsheed will strive to reduce the per capita consumption of electricity and water by 8 percent and 15 percent, respectively," he said.
The event felicitated the winners of different categories of contests organised by Kahramaa's Conservation and Energy department to raise awareness about the importance of rationalisation.
