THERE should be more initiatives from schools aiming to encourage Qatari students to pursue a teaching career, HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed al Hammadi, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, has said.
The minister's comment came during his inspection visit to Doha Secondary Independent School for Boys.
"I am proud of seeing Qatari students passionate about learning and gaining knowledge as a country's evolution relies greatly on its people's appreciation of education and their respect for teachers," he added.
The minister attended teaching sessions in physics, mathematics and English presented by three of the school's Qatari students which participated in the school's 'Student Teacher' initiative aiming to orient Qatari students in independent schools towards becoming qualified Qatari professionals in the educational field of teaching, in addition to promoting stronger relationships between students and their teachers.
Hammadi further said that he was impressed by the students' capacities and performances and praised the unique initiative and its valuable goals and outcomes, adding that other schools in the country should replicate it in order to motivate Qatari students to join the field.
During his visit, the minister discussed with the administrative and academic bodies of the school their upcoming programmes and projects and visited the mobile bus lab where he was introduced to the students' creative projects.
