The diversion on Al Wakrah road at Abdullah Abdulghani Roundabout, which created gridlock and led to flak from commuters on social media, has been removed.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) posted a series of tweets saying the diversion, in coordination with Qatar Rail and Traffic Police, has been"postponed" to decongest and bring traffic back to normal on Al Wakrah Street.
The diversion had caused huge traffic congestion on Al Wakrah road and many motorists had taken to social media to vent their frustration.
"Thanks to Qatar Rail and Traffic Police for their cooperation and efforts that helped decongest and bring traffic back to normal traffic on Al Wakra Street today," Ashghal said in a tweet.
"In May, the road connecting to the bridge from Najma Extention Street behind Barwa Village will open to connect Ras Abu Fontas Street coming from Abdulla Abdulghani Roundabout."
It added,"In June, Al Wakrah bypass will be opened to traffic, which will connect traffic from Mesaieed Road with G-Ring and F-Ring roads. In July, Al Wukair bypass will be opened to traffic."
