EMBASSIES of 12 Latin American and Caribbean countries joined hands to provide a sparkling display of their art forms before the people of Qatar during the successful cultural festival 'Roots' at the Cultural Village-Katara.
Several ambassadors of the participating countries told Qatar Tribune their views on the significance of such cultural exchanges.
The Dean of Ambassadors of the Latin American countries and the Ambassador of Ecuador to Qatar HE Kabalan Abi Saab said that the festival was an initiative to showcase the vibrancy of their art, culture and heritage to the people of Qatar.
Saab thanked the General Manager of Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti for his generous support in realising this significant project which brought the vibrancy of Latin America and the Caribbean cultures in Qatar. Referring to Katara, he said:"This cultural platform has never failed to provide assistance and support to all the diplomatic missions and especially to the embassies of the Latin American and the Caribbean countries, thereby making it possible for us to organise such a cultural extravaganza."
He also said:"We believe that art is the language of communication amongst nations that brings out the beauty emanating from the sensations and inspirations and thereby provoking emotions and feelings which surpasses time, history and boundaries."
He continued:"Through art people interacts with fellow men and women as well as with nature and the universe. Art is the doctrine of life that contains hope, dreams, ideas, experiences, opinions and philosophies and provides platform to people that transcends beyond all differences among races in terms of religions, cultures and languages."
Stressing on the value of art, he quoted the lines of a Chilean author Pablo Neruda who had said:"He who does not travel, who does not read, who does not listen to music, who do not find grace in himself, dies slowly."
Ambassador of Argentina HE Rossana Surballe also expressed her happiness over the success of the 'Roots' festival, and said:"It is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Qatar to participate in this festival and learn about the diverse cultures that co-exist among different participating countries."
Ambassador of Uruguay HE Jorge Antonio Ser Sturzenegger thanked the people of Qatar for making the cultural festival a success."The photographic exhibition highlighting the interiors and exterior of the Santos Palace built on lines of the Italian renaissance style of architecture by Uruguayan photographer is a visual treat for visitors."
According to Sturzenegger, the festival provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase Latin American culture to the people of Qatar through exchange of art, music and dance performances."It's a big step forward in ensuring peace and harmony among cultures," he added.
Charge d' Affaires of Panama Dr Oreste Del Rio Sandoval said that the festival has provided different countries to share their traditions and art forms for the people of this region to appreciate and enjoy.
Countries taking part in the festival were Ecuador, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Cuba, Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama and Uruguay. Colourful performances by participating countries concluded on Saturday and the exhibition by various artists will continue until April 29, at Building 19 in Katara.
