THE State of Qatar affirmed that it will not hesitate to support any resumption of serious negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, which would lead to peace and a timetable for the two sides to live side by side in peace and security according to the two-State solution and the establishment of the Palestinian State based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This came in a statement of the State of Qatar delivered by the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif al Thani before the UN Security Council Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East and the 'Palestinian Question'.
Qatar has spared no effort to achieve peace and stability in the region and will continue its policy and cooperation with the international parties in this regard, recognising the dangers of the conflict in the Middle East within its conviction that peace needs all political and humanitarian efforts, the ambassador said.
There was no longer any doubt that the achievement of peace in the Middle East has great positive consequences for resolving the complex crises facing the region, first and foremost the elimination of terrorism, Sheikha Alia said.
She noted that this long and painful conflict had confirmed that the success and promotion of opportunities for peace requires abandoning the imposition of a fait accompli policy, procedures and policies contrary to international law, which undermine the efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Middle East.
Qatar recognises the responsibility of all States and act in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to promote international peace and security and to meet new challenges. It, therefore, firmly believes that achieving peace in the Middle East is subject to the commitment of the parties concerned to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy in good faith, she added.
