A QATARI philanthropist has financed Qatar Charity's housing project consisting of 100 houses that would shelter 500 people in the Indonesian city of Garut.
The city had witnessed sweeping floods that destroyed hundreds of homes leaving many residents homeless.
The project aimed at providing befitting housing for the afflicted locals and alleviating hardship caused by the loss of their homes.
The project also aimed at increasing the level of social development and promoting the sense of cooperation and humanitarian solidarity between Qatar and Indonesia.
Dr Helmi Bodiman, deputy mayor of Garut, launched the project along with the donor and his brothers Ahmed Yousef al Mala, Yousef bin Ahmed Kawary, representing the Executive Director of Qatar Charity, Khaled Abdullah Yafee, operations director in the Executive Directory for QC operations and Khaled Hadramy, head of Munificent Relations at QC.
Mala said,"We at QC are happy for being a link between the poor around the world and the munificent people. We are here to lay foundation of this project so that hundreds of our brothers and sisters who lost their homes in Indonesia can benefit from it.
"My brothers and sisters, by Allah's will first and then by the generosity of a good person, building 100 houses will be possible. QC hopes that this project will put a smile on the faces of beneficiaries and plant a seed of hope in them. May Allah bless him. We thank him for this great effort. We also thank the Indonesian government for facilitating our mission to start the project in this great country."
Mala said this is not the first projects for Qatar in Garut, but it has dug 500 wells, built tens of schools and mosques.
He stressed that Qatar would always stand beside Indonesia, especially during crises and disaster times.
On his part, Bodiman said,"We thank QC for the drilling of 500 wells and building tens of mosques, centres and schools in Garut. QC is always first to offer assistance to build housing projects which solve core problems. Thanks to Allah that we are gathering today, connected by our Islamic brotherhood, to launch the beginning of building Al Kawthar City."
