The Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) has completed the renovation of the Al Wakrah Harbour on time and within the earmarked budget. The horbour will help meet the needs of fishermen and boat owners.
The renovation project was undertaken by Mwani Qatar under the directives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
According to Mwani Qatar, the work began in October last year in co-ordination with the Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The harbour berth was completely renovated, old facilities were replaced with modern ones, and the pavement was extended from 120 to 160 metres, with 35 berths and 16 bollards.
"The new harbour's facilities will help meet the needs of boat owners and support economic development in Al Wakrah and adjacent areas, by promoting business activities in a way that serves the national economy," Mwani Qatar CEO Abdulla al Khanji said.
"Mwani Qatar, in co-ordination with stakeholders, has used the finest and latest materials during project renovation in an effort to protect the environment and ensure these materials are in compliance with the highest standards of safety and quality," he said.

"The project reflects the considerable attention given by the stakeholders to provide appropriate and modern facilities with global standards and specifications to meet the needs of fishermen and boat owners," he said, adding that this contributes to maximising the utilisation of these vital facilities and enhancing their role in serving the people of the region.
"The success achieved by Mwani Qatar today in this project and previously would not have been possible without the continuous support of our wise government led by the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and the tireless follow up by Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti," he added.
