'ROOTS Festival' was inaugurated with much fanfare at the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, on Tuesday.
The event will showcase Latin American and Caribbean cultures through a series of exhibitions. The festival is scheduled to run until April 22.
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of the General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti, and a number of VIP diplomatic missions to Doha representing the 12 participating countries.
They included the Ambassador of Ecuador HE Kabalan Abi Saab, Deputy head of mission of Brazil Joao Belloc, Ambassador of Costa Rica HE Luis Alberto Guillen Downing, Ambassador of Argentina HE Rossana Surballe, Ambassador of Cuba HE Eumelio Caballero Rodriguez, Charge D' Affairs HE Giannina Maria Panameno Suazrez, Ambassador of Mexico HE Francisco Javier Niembro Cibrian, Charge D' Affaires of Panama HE Dr Oreste Del Rio Sandoval, Ambassador of Paraguay HE Angel Barchini, Deputy Chief of Mission HE Ruben Espinoza Raymondi, Ambassador of Uruguay HE Jorge Antonio Ser` Sturzenegger, Charge D' Affaires of Venezuela HE Fatima Majzoub El-Majzoub.
In addition to other diplomatic missions to Doha, a large number of art enthusiasts and media personnel were also present.
The inauguration of the festival kicked off with the opening of the exhibitions that were divided into two halls. Visitors can view exhibitions that reflect the origins of Latin America and the Caribbean countries through photographs and painting exhibits from Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama and Uruguay.
