A 25-year-old resident has tested positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus (MERS-CoV), marking the second confirmed case in the country this year.
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said the patient has been admitted to a hospital as per the national infection prevention and control protocol for MERS-CoV cases to ensure appropriate medical attention. The patient's condition is stated to be stable.
The patient had complained of fever, cough, cold and body pains for several days and sought medical advice in a primary healthcare centre. Samples taken from him tested positive for MERS-CoV. However, the patient has neither a history of contact with similar cases nor has he recently travelled abroad.
Meanwhile, a 62-year-old patient, who was admitted to Hamad General Hospital after being tested positive for MERS, has fully recovered and discharged from the hospital.
MoPH advises people, in particular those with low immunity to abide by cough etiquette and handwashing with soap and water thoroughly.
