As part of its efforts to develop a new transport strategy, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, will carry out a survey to elicit the views of parents of students on the school transport system.
The survey aims to understand the preferences and needs of parents as well as the correlation of school transport with the demographic, economic and social characteristics of families and their distribution in different parts of the country.
The survey results will be analysed to generate the possible means of developing bus transport systems and setting policies offering solutions to traffic congestion during rush hours. The survey includes independent and private schools at all educational levels in addition to nurseries.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education will distribute the survey questionnaires through its communication channels on April 17, and text messages with the survey link will be sent to parents on April 18. The questionnaires will have to be filled in anonymously and include all students of each family. Parents can also access the survey link through the MoTC and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education websites.
The survey requests information such as the family's residence location, students' schools and their locations, reason for the school choice, means of transport to school and work, number of vehicles owned by the family, and the family's monthly income.
It also offers parents an opportunity to voice their concerns and offer suggestions.
Based on the survey results, a MoTC team will deliver suggestions for short and long term alternatives encouraging the use of school buses and decreasing the demand on transport related to school trips affecting road networks.
MoTC is studying school transport systems and their impact on road networks within its vision of developing a strategy for comprehensive transport system ensuring safety and efficiency while maintaining the highest level of comfort for Qatar residents.
The strategy will contribute to preventing traffic congestion and guaranteeing ultimate traffic safety.
