THE Community College Qatar's (CCQ) 4th edition of the Humanities Conference 2017 'A Nation in Transition' was initiated at the City Center Rotana hotel in Doha on Wednesday.
The opening ceremony of the two-day conference was attended by representatives of the CCQ Board of Trustees, Qatar University, Ooredoo, RasGas, QAPCO, along with a number of ambassadors to the State of Qatar and researchers in the field of humanities.
In his opening speech, CCQ President Dr Ibrahim al Naimi pointed out the pivotal role of human sciences in the enlightenment of nations. He stressed on the continuous role that Qatar's leadership plays to implement ambitious changes in the country aligning with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Naimi added that Qatar has succeeded in achieving significant development in vital sectors including education, which allowed it to keep up with the rapid pace of global growth.
Manar Khalifa al Muraikhi, director of public relations and community service in Ooredoo, stressed on the conference's importance for the company as it focuses on supporting educational and research institutions in the country. She also noted that Ooredoo aspires to contribute to Qatar National Vision 2030 aiming to build a knowledge-based society by providing the communication technologies enabling individuals to access the latest news around the world and benefit from advanced and high-speed communication networks.
Keynote speaker HE Dana Shell Smith, Ambassador of the US to Qatar, showcased the development that Qatar has witnessed over the past few years towards building an economy based on knowledge, and the role of technology and social media in opening the cross-cultural dialogue and influencing the political transition globally. The ambassador praised the transition that CCQ has been through in diversifying its academic programmes and providing high-quality educational opportunities to its students.
The first day of the conference featured a range of talks addressing vital issues related to the transition such as: the impact of Qatar National Vision 2030 on the country's transition, analysis of the concept of the Arab Spring, the impact of social media on societies in transition, the changes in the higher education systems of societies in transition, women in global transition phase, Islamic point of views on change and transition and languages in transition.
The talks will continue on Thursday on the following topics: Women in the Islamic world, transitions in the developed world, technological impacts on education in transition phase, philosophical and ethical ideologies, historical dialogues, policies for economic incentives, along with other topics addressing the role of humanities and social sciences in the transition.
This year's edition of the Humanities Conference focuses on the efforts of ambitious nations including Qatar in achieving a fruitful transition, concentrating on the four pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030: human, social, economic and environmental development.
Around 40 researchers and experts from 14 countries are taking part in the conference.
