A CONCERT that pays homage to the legacy of Maestro Luciano Pavarotti and aims at raising funds for displaced Syrian families, currently living in refugee camps in Jordan, will be staged at the Qatar National Convention Centre on February 1, 2018.
The event billed 'Brave New World' also commemorates the 10th death anniversary of Pavarotti and is being organised by Luciano Pavarotti Foundation headed by the late opera singer's wife Nicoletta Mantovani together with Rosso Italiano, a Doha-based company, and in partnership with the Embassy of Italy in Qatar.
At a press conference held at St Regis Doha on Wednesday, the event organisers stressed the concert's message of solidarity and symbolic partnership between Qatar and Italy in reaching out to the displaced Syrian families and children through the Italian NGO based in Jordan, Vento di Terra.
Proceeds of the concert will be used to support the growth and sustainability of existing psycho-social education programmes in Syrian refugee camps in Jordan.
"The concert will be one of a kind in the Middle East blending Western, Italian and Arab music. My husband loved to bring opera to a great audience, which he did in many ways even through pop music. Doha, which is a true symbol of a composite culture, is an appropriate location to host this event," said Nicoletta Mantovani, President and Founder of Pavarotti Foundation.
"Luciano really loved your country (Qatar). He was one of the first international performers to be here in 2003. That's why I am so happy to be here with this project because I am sure he would be happy also. I founded the Pavarotti Foundation when my husband passed away in 2007 to keep his memories alive and his commitments, and one of these is helping young singers and those in need especially children affected by war. So, we decided to help displaced Syrian families and children. We would like to build education centres at the refugee camps in Jordan to give them some hope."
The concert titled 'Brave New World' was adopted from the song written and composed by local composer Dana al Fardan as a result of her collaboration with the Pavarotti Foundation. Fardan said the song, originally written in English, includes Arabic instrumentation and will be translated into other languages.
The concert will also feature local artistes namely Ali Abdulsattar and Fahad al Kubaisi.
"Maestro Luciano Pavarotti is a household name in the world of music. We followed him throughout his career. His passion for arts and music as well as his remarkable generosity are all well-known to people,"said Ambassador of Italy to Qatar HE Guido de Sanctis.
Managing Director/ Co-founder of Rosso Italiano Laura Somma, CEO Essa al Zeyara and COO Ali al Haj also attended the press conference.
