As part of its efforts to curb road accidents and enhance the efficiency of traffic management, the General Directorate of Traffic will establish separate traffic offices in five different areas.
The decision was taken at a meeting at the directorate on March 23 to discuss the work requirements needed for implementing the proposal for 'Traffic Department management by geographical locations'.
In the first phase, the proposal will be implemented in the North, South, Al Mamoura, Al Rayyan and Industrial area.
The meeting was attended by Director of General Directorate of Traffic Brig. Mohammed Saad al Kharji, Secretary of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Brig. Mohammed Abdullah al Malki, Director of Traffic Engineering Department Brig. Muhammad Marafia, Manager of the Qatar National Traffic Safety Office Dr Kim Jraiw and a number of officers concerned with the implementation of the proposal.
Brig. Kharji applauded the efforts made by the group in implementing the proposal. He said an engineer from the Traffic Engineering Department would be assigned to join the officer-in-charge of the geographical areas to give technical support for the implementation of the proposal.

Brig Maliki said the idea of managing traffic departments by geographic locations had been shared with the National Committee for Traffic Safety and had received support, especially after presenting statistics on the five selected areas which represent 75 percent of road accident deaths and serious injuries.
Brig Maliki said traffic officers in charge of the five areas, in addition to their duties, will coordinate with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) regarding any problem in their areas and submit a report to the relevant authorities for discussion and to chalk out solutions.
Dr Kim Jraiw also gave a presentation on the importance of managing traffic departments by geographic locations. He said the National Traffic Safety Office will give support to the areas through collecting and providing them with updated information.
The National Traffic Safety Office will also facilitate visits of stakeholders such as Ashghal, Traffic Department, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Ministry of Public Health to these areas to provide support and advice to the decision-makers.
