FASTING gastric ulcer patients must have sufficient amount of fluid during iftar and sohour throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan, a Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) doctor has said.
The Consultant, Family Medicine, at PHCC Dr Abdullah al Ne'ama has also advised gastric ulcer patients to avoid foods that cause the formation of salt stones.
He also urged them to avoid exposure to the sun and heavy work during the day, and warned kidney failure patients who perform dialysis process two or three times a week against fasting.
Ne'ama, however, added that those who insist on to fast, should not drink too much fluid after breakfast and avoid eating foods that contain potassium.
According to him, eating and drinking too much and consuming meal rich in fat or spices during breakfast can cause indigestion, abdominal pain and nausea.
He said people with indigestion can tone up their digestive system during the holy month through fasting if they avoid eating too much during breakfast.
He added that ulcer patients must take their medication regularly if they wish to fast.
