INDIAN Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Msheireb Downtown Project on the first day of his first visit to Qatar on Saturday. From the state-of-the-art project site he said that Indian workers across the world can contact and interact with him through a mobile application.
Addressing hundreds of Indian workers, Modi said,"If you have some issues with regard to certain regulations, I will work with you all to bring about those changes," Modi said.
Modi assured the workers of taking up their issues with Qatar's leadership.
In his 12-minute speech, Modi mentioned the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani's visit to India last year and said that HH the Emir had praised Indian workers' 'unmatched contribution' to the development of Qatar.
Modi was accompanied by the Qatar's Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohammed al Kuwari, Qatar's Minister of Finance HE Ali Shareef al Emadi, Chief Executive Officer of Msheireb Project Abdulla Hassan al Mehshadi and Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE Sanjiv Arora.
The visit was organised by the Indian Embassy in association with Indian Community Benevolent Forum and Indian Medical Association.
Lauding the Indian working community at Msheireb Downtown Project, Modi said,"India's global image is not built by its prime minister or its ambassador but by you through your behaviour. It's you who earn India a good name. And this global goodwill is the biggest international reserve currency."
Modi also interacted with workers after his brief address and shared refreshments with them. He shook hands with several workers during his 25-minute stay (7.03 pm to 7.28 pm) at the 'camp'. The Indian PM also congratulated doctors for their good work in Qatar.
