Vehicles that are more than 15 years old are now required to undergo technical inspection (Fahes) every six months for a period of five years, according to a new circular by Qatar Central Bank (QCB) on vehicle insurance.
Similarly, vehicles which have completed 20 years on road are required to undergo technical inspection every four months and those over 25 years must have the inspection done every three months.
All insurance companies in Qatar will start implementing the new regulations soon.
The new circular comes according to Law no. 1 of 2016 regarding vehicles that have exceeded 15 years on road.
Owners of vehicles that are over 15 years old will have to choose between two ways of insurance payment.
They can either choose to pay over the periods defined in the new law or pay their insurance fees annually and get the technical inspection done depending on the age of the vehicle.
Moreover, QCB will coordinate with insurance companies to implement the new law and regulate the payments smoothly.
