A Filipina housemaid was found guilty of killing her newborn baby and throwing the body in a garbage dump by the Criminal Court on Tuesday. The court will announce the punishment next month.
After hearing the testimonies of the forensic physician, the house owner and another maid working in the same house, the court chaired by Judge Abdullah Ali al Emadi ordered that the accused be kept in prison. It allowed the defence lawyer to submit a pleading brief within 10 days.
In his testimony, the house owner said he called the police after one of her maids informed him that the accused had killed her baby girl. He said he never noticed any signs of pregnancy on the accused.
The maid said,"I had seen the accused lying on the floor and the newborn. She then asked me to leave the room as she wanted to kill the newborn. She then closed the room and covered the windows. But, I managed to see her through a hole. I saw her hit the baby on the face, then put a knife on her neck and kill her."
The accused put baby in a trash bag, cleaned up the place and threw the bag in a garbage dump, according to a report in Al Raya newspaper.
