The General Authority of Customs has foiled attempts to smuggle in a large quantity of contrabands into the country with the seizure of 66kg of marijuana, 8kg of hashish and 5,600 drug pills from passengers at the Hamad International Airport (HIA).
The contraband items were found wrapped in carbon paper during operations at the airport, and in postal packages coming into the country by ordinary and express mail.
Chairman of General Authority of Customs HE Ahmed bin Abdullah al Jamal has honoured 15 employees of HIA Customs Department and Air Cargo and Private Airports Customs Department.
He said the Customs department is efficiently preventing entry of any banned drug to the country. He praised the efforts of inspectors in foiling smuggling attempts.
Jamal said the Customs employees are known for their efficiency. They are well-trained to detect banned substances and materials, he added.
