W Doha Hotel & Residences, the first luxury lifestyle hotel in Qatar, opened its doors to 'Start Doha', a contemporary art fair that is being held in association with the third edition of The New York Times 'Art for Tomorrow' Conference, with a grand reception attended by noteworthy figures from the regional and international art scene. The exhibition is spread over the luxurious expanse of the hotel's 29th floor and will be housing inspiring solo presentation exhibits from the Start Gallery that reflect the overarching theme of The New York Times 'Art for Tomorrow' Conference, which is 'Boundaries, Identity and the Public Realm'.
The event is now open for the public to view until March 14, from 9 am to 9 pm daily. Dedicated purely to displaying art, W Doha's Level 29 will be a platform that facilitates intercultural exchange among artists, guests of the conference and the public. Guests to Start Doha are assured of an authentic experience as the event benefits from the prior success of Start London and the expertise of Saatchi Gallery CEO Nigel Hurst and leading artist and curator Mahmoud Obaidi who joined the event. David and Serenella Ciclitaira, founders of Start as well as Area Manager of Qatar and Oman Safak Guvenc and W Doha Hotel & Residences general manager were also in attendance.
Guests can look forward to an engaging collection of solo artist presentations and some of the names that will be featured at the event include Faig Ahmed, Raeda Ashour, Filwa Nazer, Adel al Quraishi, Maimouna Guerresi, Osama Esid, Ibrahim el Dessouki, Mohammed Zaza, Ali Hassam, Larissa Sansour and Abdullah al Shaikh.
